About Madelyn

Madelyn Chan was born in Los Angeles and raised in Glendale, California.

Madelyn is on the autism spectrum, and thus struggles with communicating and socializing with others. However, she finds photography and writing as easier ways to “discuss” her thoughts and feelings; hence, she continues to explore her artistry through photography and poetry. The biggest problem she is facing today is managing her atelophobia which is a fear of making mistakes, but she has found a way to cope with her fear. Instead of trying to avoid making mistakes in her images, she decides to archive them on her website so she can learn new photographic skills and improve them.
Her goal is to create images and poems that convey life from her perspective, and to teach others, young and old, that mistakes are not such a bad thing at all. Instead of thinking about the consequences of making mistakes or focusing on the negative parts of them or other imperfections, Madelyn believes that the best way to follow your dream is to learn from your mistakes, focus on the positives that come from mistakes or imperfections, and be yourself.
Her favorite quote is by her favorite band, BTS: "Speak Yourself." That means understanding who you are and appreciating your unique qualities. Those two words, along with the group's songs, encourage Madelyn to relax and be herself while she is taking pictures or writing poems, and now she is following in her idols' footsteps to encourage others to love themselves for who they are through her work.
